Blackstone Low Flame Fix

If your Blackstone griddle suddenly won’t get hot and the flame is very low across every burner, the problem is usually the propane regulator.
This happens when the flow check valve gets triggered, usually from opening the propane tank too quickly. The fix is simple and only takes a minute.
Quick Overview of the Fix
- Turn all burner knobs off
- Close the propane tank valve
- Disconnect the regulator from the tank
- Wait about 30 seconds
- Reconnect the regulator
- Slowly open the propane tank valve
- Light the griddle and check the flame

Step-by-Step: How to Reset Your Blackstone Regulator

Step 1: Turn All Burner Knobs Off
Before doing anything, make sure every burner knob is turned completely off.
This prevents gas from flowing when you reconnect the regulator.
Step 2: Turn Off the Propane Tank
Close the valve on your propane tank completely.
This stops the gas flow and allows the regulator to reset properly.

Step 3: Disconnect the Regulator
Unscrew the regulator from the propane tank.
This releases the pressure inside the regulator.
Step 4: Wait About 30 Seconds
Give the regulator about 30 seconds before reconnecting it.
This allows the internal safety valve to fully reset.

Step 5: Reconnect the Regulator
Screw the regulator back onto the propane tank and tighten it securely.
Make sure the connection is snug but don’t overtighten it.
Step 6: Slowly Open the Propane Tank Valve
This is the step that prevents the problem from happening again.
Open the propane tank slowly instead of turning it on quickly. Opening it too fast is what usually triggers the safety valve.

Step 7: Light the Griddle

Turn on one burner and light it.
You should now see a normal blue flame and your griddle should heat up properly again.
If Your Flame Is Yellow or Uneven
If resetting the regulator didn’t fix the problem, the issue may not be low gas flow.
Large yellow flames or uneven flames are usually caused by blockages inside the burner tubes, most often spider webs.
