Blackstone Yellow or Uneven Flame Fix
If your Blackstone griddle has large yellow/orange flames or uneven burners, the problem is usually a blockage inside the burner tubes.
Most of the time this blockage is spider webs. Cleaning the burners is simple and usually fixes the problem in just a few minutes.
Quick Overview of the Fix
- Turn off the griddle and propane tank
- Remove the griddle top
- Locate the burner screws
- Remove the screw holding the burner in place
- Slide the burner out
- Clean the inside of the burner tube with a pipe cleaner or burner brush
- Reinstall the burner and test the flame

Step-by-Step: Cleaning Blackstone Burner Tubes
Step 1: Turn Off the Griddle and Propane Tank
Start by turning all burner knobs to OFF and closing the propane tank valve.
This ensures no gas is flowing while you work on the burners.
Step 2: Remove the Griddle Top
Lift the griddle cooking surface off the frame so you can access the burners underneath.
Don’t worry if the underside looks a little rough from grease and heat. That’s normal and not part of the cooking surface.

Step 3: Locate the Burner Screws
On most Blackstone griddles, each burner is held in place by a single screw at the back.
This screw keeps the burner aligned with the gas valve.
Step 4: Remove the Burner Screw
Use a screwdriver to remove the screw holding the burner in place.
Set the screw aside so you don’t lose it.

Step 5: Slide the Burner Out
Carefully slide the burner upward and out.
You usually won’t be able to remove it completely because it’s connected to the igniter wire, but you can slide it out far enough to clean inside the burner tube.
Step 6: Clean the Burner Tube
Use a pipe cleaner, small bottle brush, or burner cleaning brush to clean inside the burner tube.
This removes spider webs and debris that block gas flow.
You can also lightly brush the outside of the burner to remove buildup around the burner holes.

Step 7: Reinstall the Burner and Test the Flame
Slide the burner back into position and reinstall the screw.
Turn the propane tank back on, light the burners, and check the flame.
You should now see even blue flames across the burner.

If Your Flame Is Very Low Across All Burners
If your flame is low across every burner and the griddle won’t get hot, the issue may not be a blockage.
That usually means the propane regulator safety valve was triggered. Check out my full blog post on how to reset your regulator due on a Blackstone Griddle.
